An RMB4 converter are especially made to be built-in to a Bang & Olufsen Beo4 remote control. A modified Beo4 can control a device of another brand than Bang & Olufsen.
Most typical uses of a modified Beo4 remote control are:
When a B&O TV has been replaced with a non-B&O TV like Samsung, LG or other brands.
A RMB4 modified Beo4 gives an intuitive simple control of the new TV, yet allowing full control. A modified Beo4 can still control other B&O devices like Radios.

RMB4 controlled non-B&O TV Set-up
In this setup, the modified Beo4 directly controls 3 devices with IR control.
A single press on the TV button will simultaneously turn on the TV and the B&O radio in AUX mode. A cable delivers audio from the TV to the radio, thus; the TV sounds over the speakers connected to the B&O radio.
Until change of source, volume buttons will control the volume level of the B&O radio and all other buttons will control the TV.
RMB4 controlled B&O TV Set-up.
There are RMB4 converters available for settopboxes like Apple TV, BlueRay recorders, Satellelite receiver e.t.c.
When the source on the B&O TV is selected, to where the settopbox is connected, the RMB4 modified Beo4 will first power on the B&O TV and then shift to transmitting controls to the settopbox.
Until change of source, volume buttons will now control the volume level of the B&O TV and all other buttons will control the settopbox.
In a RMB4 setup, a Bang & Olufsen TV does not need to have its own internal STB controller. Thus RMB4 converters can be used with any B&O TV, no matter it’s age or software.
RMB4 converters fits any Beo4, all can be modified. Some Beo4 remote controls has a ‘Go’ button, others has a ‘Joystick’. The RMB4 converter will self-adjust and automatically fit any.
How the RMB4 converter works.
The RMB4 converter board inside a modified Beo4, monitors at any time which buttons are being pressed. Thereby it keeps track of which source is active and currently in use.
A RMB4 modified Beo4 with a converter for controlling a non-B&O TV, will remain inactive, until the TV button is pressed. While inactive it will operate as if the Beo4 had not been modified.
When the TV button is pressed the converter will ‘take over’ and hereafter alter the emitted IR-codes. Following a carefully planned layout, some buttons will get new functions, and codes will be sent directly to the non-B&O TV.
When the TV button is pressed a Power-ON command is sent to the non-B&O TV, that will power on. From now on the number buttons, Menu, Text and Source selections be sent directly to the non-B&O TV.
Dedicated buttons are also directly available for Guide, programme stepping and Back. This provides a unique and smoth control of the non-B&O TV.
Most RMB4 converters can be option programmed to handle certain situations in different ways. An option is easily entered using the RMB4 modified Beo4’s keyboard.
An example of an option could be to handle the setup shown on top of this page, where the RMB4 modified Beo4 is controlling a non-B&O TV, connected to a Bang & Olufsen radio. Sound output from the non-B&O TV is connected to the AUX input of the Bang & Olufsen radio, to achieve a better sound quality.
Setting of a simple option brings this control to the setup:
A single press on TV will simultaneously power on the non-B&O TV and the B&O radio. The B&O radio will have its AUX source selected. As the TVs sound output is connected to the AUX source of the B&O radio, TV sound will immediately sound from the B&O speakers.
Number buttons, Navigation buttons, Menu, Text and Back controls will from now on be converted and sent to control the non-B&O TV. Dedicated buttons are also directly available for Guide, Zap and Back. This provides a unique and smooth control of the non-B&O TV.
Volume and Mute controls will not be converted and sent to the non-B&O TV. Instead these commands will control the volume on the B&O radio.
A single press on the Standby button, will power off both the non-B&O TV and the B&O radio.
